The Archaeological Museum of Milan is part of the Civic Museums of Milan. It is housed in the Monastero Maggiore of San Maurizio in Corso Magenta and in the Castello Sforzesco. Its collections are varied and rich, divided in different sections: Roman, Barbarian, of Gandhara, Prehistoric and Egyptian.
The history of the museum dates back to the XIX century, when the Ministry of Public Education established the Museum of Archaeology, which collected documentations of all the ages, from the prehistoric to the modern one.
From 1965, the museum is placed in the current seat.
